Ron Watermon

Attorney, Founder & CEO, STORYSMART®

Ron Watermon is the founder and CEO of STORYSMART® a boutique cinematic storytelling consulting service that enables public figures and mission-driven organizations to have their stories produced by professional filmmakers while retaining control of their intellectual property rights.

STORYSMART®'s mission of providing Storytelling For ALL™ and Filmmaking For ALL™ emanates from the fundamental value that everyone matters and deserves to be remembered.  Nothing is more powerful or enduring than a beautiful film that brings a story alive on screen and in our hearts.

STORYSMART® redefines the typical Hollywood production model by partnering with clients to develop their true story into a motion picture, allowing them to control their IP rights and benefit equitably along with creators.

STORYSMART® provides a variety of customizable services to assist clients with every aspect of their story's journey to the screen, as well as enabling them to maximize monetization potential.

Those services range from story preservation digital archive services like those used by Oprah Winfrey, Bon Jovi and Billy Graham, to documentary film production, story development, screenwriting, licensing, and merchandising.

As an attorney, Emmy-nominated screenwriter, and visionary communications leader with decades experience in Major League Baseball and politics, Ron Watermon brings a unique blend of skills to help clients maximize the value of their own true stories.

Prior to founding STORYSMART®, Ron Watermon spent 18 seasons in Major League Baseball where he was responsible for managing the St. Louis Cardinals government affairs and modernizing the team's communications through aggressive investment in digital media, television production, fan engagement, social media, and the digital preservation of team assets.

Ron's recognition of the importance of usage, licensing, and ownership rights in the digital era was forged during his time with the MLB team.  Ron is credited with ensuring that the Cardinals had clear copyright on team photography and aggressively invested in creating their own copyright protected storytelling content to connect directly with fans through the team’s website, social media, and the weekly TV show he produced that is distributed to 19 stations in 8 states (Cardinals Insider with Ozzie Smith).

During his 18 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals,  Ron's accomplishments included helping secure political approval to build the new ballpark & Ballpark Village in downtown St. Louis, leading the effort to develop an industry-leading digital archive housing team IP, and pioneering various innovative fan engagement and creative digital storytelling initiatives that helped contribute to Forbes ranking the Cardinals 3rd among 30 MLB teams in social reach.

During his time in baseball, Ron co-led the Cardinals' Busch Stadium Final Season Memorabilia project that generated over $14 million in incremental revenue to the team.  Following that, Ron helped lead the effort to create Cardinals Authentics, a new licensing and memorabilia business generating more than $1 million in incremental revenue annually to the team.

An Emmy nominated writer, Ron’s creative portfolio features the renowned Stand for Stan Social Media Campaign , the first ever Instagram video serial #TheFrontOffice, the Emmy-nominated Instagram serial #BirdToTheFuture, the #CardsRatPack cartoon series honoring Whitey Herzog  and #CompleteGamer , a campaign honoring Bob Gibson that featured the composition of a song telling Gibson’s amazing life story in the vein of Lin Manuel Miranda’s acclaimed broadway hit Hamilton .

Ron formed STORYSMART® because he believes everyone should own their own story and share it in a memorable way so that they will always be remembered.
